While remote work has been a thing for the longest time, it reached a new high in 2020 during the pandemic to become a popular option for employees across the world and different industries. But how do one stay healthy and sane while working remotely particularly as it offers workers a range of benefits?

The advantages of working remotely cannot be overemphasized. But how one can decide whether this option aligns with your career goals and preferred lifestyle? And if it does, how can one maintain an active lifestyle while working from home? A sedentary life is deleterious to health along the line.

Thus working remotely have its benefits but one need  creative thinking and self-discipline to develop healthy habits important for both your physical and mental health. TBN has interviewed eight people working from home to tell us how to stay healthy and remain active even when working from home.

Diana

I work from home four days days a week and it’s a blessing. To stay active and stay healthy, I make sure I hit the gym in the morning before work. I also drink lots of water, stand up and walk around for a bit once an hour and eat a healthy balanced diet through meal prep.

Tiara

I aim to weightlift 3-4 times a week, run 1-2 times per week at 1-3 miles at a time and take supplements everyday (or at least every day that I remember). The supplements include fish oil for skin health, ashwaghanda for sleep, magnesium for sleep and muscle recovery, a women’s immunity booster multivitamin, vitamin D, and DIM for estrogen regulation. For my active hobbies, I kayak any Saturday I can and try to hike when I can as well.

Daniel

Working remotely makes sense to me considering that I work outside Nigeria. To stay healthy, I do spin class, yoga and step aerobics, etc. I find it better to do something that doesn’t feel like work but keeps you moving. I also go dancing with friends every Friday night – yielding an average of 16k steps. I prepare most of my own food and eat very little processed or fast food and consume very little sugar.

Ifeanyi

I work from home full time. Here’s some tips I use to stay healthy. I ensure that I hit the gym before or after work, do stretch/yoga for 5-20 minutes before my shift as well as walk on a break/lunch for 10 or more minutes. I also make sure that my setup is ergonomic, I do daily meditation  and getting fresh air before and in between shift possible.

Cynthia

My healthy tips for working remotely, is setting up a timer to take short breaks every hour. I stand up, stretch, or walk around and I add a few minutes of home workouts to my day, eat a balanced diet to keep my  energy up. And I hit the gym when I can.

Valentine

Right now, I walk for 30 to 45 minutes on my balcony under the sunlight to get some free vitamin D every day. I also try to do 10 push-ups and 50-count power yoga as slowly as possible. Recently, I started cycling for an hour or two on Saturdays and Sundays. I keep my remote work routine balanced by being very intentional about limiting my screen time.

Amaka

I take breaks during which I hydrate, do some light exercises, or simply stand up and move around. This habit also boosted my overall productivity and well-being. I also use the treadmill and walk 1 hour in the morning after breakfast and one hour in the afternoon after lunch. I drink water continuously all day in between meals, and when I’m not walking I sit in a meditation chair.

Sarah

I do yoga, arms, abs and I have a well-rounded workout during weekend so I have a body I  can use for your whole life and use to do the things I want. I eat as much fruits/veggies as I can and try to eat less sodium and processed crap. I skip soda and carbonated beverages and opt for water.  I also get lots of sleep.
