Taylor Swift has mentored some young budding singers in her quest to become influential like Beyonce. But most of her mentorship failed starting with Olivia Rodrigo and now, Sabrina Carpenter is expected the next person to break away from her.
While it is good to mentor young musicians, the Taylor Swift dynamic is beginning to seem like a whole worshipping-like thing. This is weird. An example is that when Sabrina Carpenter was featured in Skims, she and her team had to release a statement saying she talked to Taylor before the Skims campaign.
Recall that Sabrina Carpenter told Rolling Stone that Taylor Swift gave her permission for the campaign after backlash from Swifties. In her words, “In that scenario, I’ve been very, very communicative with her about that situation, and I just love her so much and support her till the end,” “So it was no weirdness for me, but I know people will just say things because that’s all they have time to do.”
Another instance is a picture of them bowing that Taylor posted on her Instagram. It gives a “stay in line or I’ll destroy you” vibe. The relationship seems like Taylor Swift wanted to build a rival against Olivia Rodrigo but she never guessed Sabrina would make it big. Unfortunately for her, Sabrina is more talented and is well on her way to breaking away from her influence.
It is worth noting that Taylor Swift wants to influence other artists like Beyonce. You know how other artists thank Beyonce in their speeches, saying she influenced them or something? Taylor wants to be seen as someone influential to other people’s music and that’s why she usually helps some Gen Z artists.
But somewhere along the line, she wants to be worshipped and wants to say how much she has contributed to their success. So far, that might not be the case. Olivia Rodrigo has broken out of her influence and Sabrina Carpenter is slowly moving away as well. She’s hit it big and bigger than Taylor wanted her to be. And now she’s a rival.
