The 97th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is set to hold March 2, 2025. As the date sets in, rumours are already filtering in about Oscar voters and the event set to be held Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It will break some hearts and kill some dreams yet again.
Whose dreams are it? It might the dream of Timothee Chalamet who is rumoured that Oscars voters will be denying yet another win. And it is all for one reason which is that he is still too young and has many years ahead to win it. It is further alleged that this is what happened to him for his Call Me By Your Name nomination.

During the gala, the AMPAS will present Academy Awards in 23 categories, honouring films released in 2024. But the rumour says he wont be winning. Per the rumours, “Playing Bob Dylan checks all the Academy’s “biopic” boxes. But if the Academy deems Chalamet too young for an Oscar, as one voter shared stating – “there’s time for him,” – that could be what keeps his name from being on the envelope.”
The question of Timothee Chalamet’s age by Oscar voters has already been proven true by the case of Leonardo DiCaprio. They allegedly made him wait until he was 41 and on his sixth nomination to win the coveted prize. And that may well be the case of Timothee. They also made Heath Ledger wait, until he was dead. Their rationale is that he was “Too young” when he was nominated for Brokeback Mountain. And then he won posthumous win for the Joker in The Dark Knight.
Reacting to the rumours that Oscar Voters will deny Timothee Chalamet his win due to age, one fan wrote, “They don’t want Timmy to win an Oscar because they’re jealous. He is a good actor and also a genuine, wholesome person. They would prefer someone who is good, but fake. To Timothée: Don’t stop being genuine. Don’t quit good acting. They want you to give up and get mad. Don’t play their games. Do good work for yourself and your fans. What this world offers pales in comparison to what heaven can offer.”
Another added, “He should have won for CMBYN. He probably won’t win for ACU. While the Oscars may seem like they are the end all be all, it’s also super cliquey and not indicative of how the people feel.” Yet another added, “They’re definitely going to make him wait which is a shame bc l’ve never seen an actor care as much as he clearly and earnestly does.”
To be fair, Timothee Chalamet is only 29 and has been nominated twice in 6 years for best actor. For Call Me By Your Name, he was the second youngest in HISTORY to be nominated for best actor which is considered huge. His career is still young and if he keeps picking great projects and sooner (at this rate) rather than later he’ll be rewarded. Also, the Best actor category is always tough.
